The Bergen County Coaches Association George Jockish Holiday wrestling tournament is underway here at Rockland Community College in NY. The wrestlers have finished jogging around the eight mats and stretching out. While that was happening, the seeds came out and some major news dropped. Bergen Catholic star wrestler Connor Melde, a two time BCCA champ and two state fourth, is not wrestling. He suffered an apparent concussion last Thursday and was not able to wrestle. That opens the 132 bracket and the team tournament, which BC is still favored to win even without Melde.
The seeds are in and the top 4 from each bracket are listed below. I’ll have periodic updates on upsets and other interesting matches throughout the afternoon. If you want to know about a specific wrestler, let me know and I’ll try to keep you up to date.
Should be a wonderful day and by the end of it we’ll be all the way down to the quarterfinals. The semifinals and finals are tomorrow starting at 10:30. But to get there you gotta win today. Let’s see who does.
